Kedar kantha meadows are close to the small hamlet of Sankri, which is also the road head for this particular trek. Once you reach the city of Dehradun, you can drive to Sankri in a jeep through an all mountain road. On reaching Sankri you can slip into any of the small lodges over there or pre-book one. The Swargarohini hotel in Sankri is ideal for your stay. A few shops in bazaar can help in last minutes preparation, maybe some essential items you may have missed out.

From Sankri the trek gradually goes up to the Juda ka talab, where you can rest for the day and have some clean Himalayan air to breathe. Also, it will be a great time to learn about the Pine, Juniper, Rhododendron and Cider trees that flourishes in the Himalayas. Kedarkantha is a perfect trek to explore all these Himalayan things that amuse us.

Equipment list for Kedarkantha Trek

  • Footwear: Trekking Boots (snow and water proof), normal walking boots, and floaters. Few pairs of warm/woolen socks.
  • Luggage: Backpack (50-60 liters), Daypack, Duffel bag.
  • Clothes: Waterproof breathable jacket & pants, Jacket (synthetic or fleece of down feather), insulated pants (Synthetic), Poncho, Sweatshirt, inner thermal (upper & lower), t-shirts, cotton trekking pants, shorts.

Preparing for Kedarkantha Trek

For Kedarkantha trek make sure to arrange all the things listed in the equipment check list. As a beginner you may not be able to arrange all those things, so talk to a travel operator on how to arrange for one. Get a sturdy trekking boot for this trek, which should be waterproof and give you ample traction. More importantly, buy a trekking shoe well before the start of Kedarkantha trek and wear it often. A new boot may cause blisters, so use it well prior to the trek. Take warm clothing, as it gets cold at high altitude in the Himalayas even during summers.
