Long Weekend Coming Up? Head to Rishikesh Under INR 2000

Travelers usually come to Rishikesh in aspiration of being a spiritual sanctuary, to soak in the purity of Ganga, and to learn Yoga as Rishikesh is touted as the ‘Yoga Capital’ of the world. It is home to some of the oldest spiritual ashrams, the civilization closest to the origin of Ganga, bears an ancient legacy of having hosted the renowned music band Beatles in the 1970’s, and therefore a part of the hippie trail. But today, it’s also famous for its hundreds of yoga schools, as many cafes with stunning views, river-rafting, and everything else in between.

While Rishikesh is a relatively small place, the city is primarily categorized into three major areas. Being aware of these divisions helps to move around freely.

  1. Tapovan – This area is termed as the ‘hub’ of all yoga schools, guesthouses, restaurants and shops. Tapovan is usually buzzing with activity, quite crowded and functionally well-developed.
  2. Laxman Jhula – The side closer to the Ganga is Laxman or Lakshman Jhula, which encompasses amazing ghats and beaches. This place is less populated compared to Tapovan, and is away from the main city area.
  3. Rishikesh City – The area for the locals is the central city-side, where the markets are located. It also includes its main bus terminal and the two railway stations.

A 3-day Rishikesh itinerary, owing to your long weekend can be executed perfectly under a nominal budget of INR 2000. This can be achieved by prioritizing economical activities and accommodation, focusing on local experiences, and utilizing public transport.
